This year’s Erris Beo Festival takes place from June 14 thru 19. This is a great weekend of outdoor (and indoor) events, including guided walking, taking place in the general Belmullet, Blacksod, Doohoma area of Northwest Mayo.

The days are longer, friends, so we can get outside ever more. Here are my events for this lovely spring month.

Sat April 9 – The Bangor Trail is a great, entirely off-road, centuries old animal moving trail that meanders through the Nephin Beg mountains, from Bangor in north Mayo down to the seaside town of Newport. We will walk part of it, in a loop that will take us maybe 4 hours. Come along if you like the wild outdoors. See here.

Cong Lakes Walks – May Bank Holiday Wekend 2011

The value of anything a Green Party representative says in the current circumstances, where the party faces wipe-out in the upcoming election, has to be questioned. Nevertheless, it is nice to see them talk up Mayo’s wonderful rural tourism product offer.

An exhibition of paintings by Mary Lavelle-Burke, titled A Place in Time will be launched in Áras Inis Gluaire on November 13.

Mayo County Council has been urged to involve rural dwellers in its winter service plan for tackling snow and ice.

Fine Gael Spokesperson on Social Protection, Deputy Michael Ring has raised the issue of the Belmullet Sewerage Scheme again with Mayo County Council and requested to know the up to date position with it.
